Course Description
This course discusses the recognitions, legal responsibilities, assessment and management of children abused or neglected. It is designed for nurses, social workers, counselors, and other health care professionals, targeting those who work in the community. Completing this course will enable the individual to become more aware of at risk children, their responsibilities and the process to help safeguard these children from future abuse.
Goals and Objectives

Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:

Participants will be updated on the recognition of child physical abuse cutaneous injuries as well as skin findings that mimic abuse.

Participants will understand the difficulties in dating cutaneous injuries.

Participants will appreciate the role of evidence based medicine in the diagnosis of child physical abuse.

Describe the assessment process for children suspected of being abused.

Describe CPS’s intake and management of children suspected of abuse and neglect.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nurses, Sacramento chapter of NAPNAP, Sacramento CEP # 11802 for 3 contact hours. Sac chapter NAPNAP is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the BRN.
